Dear Readers, 

Last year, the farmers’ movement won in the face of nearly impossible odds through sustained and resilient struggle. Farmers’ organisations stayed united through every challenge, and the farmers made untold sacrifices to protect their own livelihoods as well as India’s food security.

It is inspiration from this movement that we take into the new year, on the brink of a possible third wave of Covid-19 in India. In the backdrop of an all-out economic and social attack on India’s people by its own Central government, this issue looks at the intensifying struggle of gig workers and also contains a simple explainer of the consequence of the new labour codes that will replace 29 labour laws in India.
